The Committee

Essential to the band processes, the committee dedicate their time organising music, concerts, rehearsals and much more. In readiness for the moment that we can again swing into Action. If you think you could help us in any way please say so!

We will need your ideas, experience and enthusiasm in order for the band to continue bringing our audiences amazing music once again.

Meet the people that make the Southdowns Concert Band possible

Peter Ansell

I have enjoyed playing the trombone since I was 12 and been in the band since we were formed in 1988.

Debbie Hodge

I have played Clarinet and Sax in the band for over 20 years – I particularly enjoy playing music from films and musicals.

Dominic Smith

Since leaving H.M. Forces as a musician, I enjoy playing with the South Downs Concert Band. I also teach A level Music, the flute and enjoy playing the bass guitar in rock bands.

Brenda Bailey

I organise our concerts from start to finish. I am the “go to girl” if you want to book the band.

Steve Eade

I have played tuba in several contesting and non contesting brass bands in Sussex and in recent times have enjoyed performing with concert bands in the Bognor and Chichester area.

Julie Schofield

I am lead clarinet and have played with the band for twelve years. I am a peripatetic clarinet teacher who loves walking and historical buildings!

Natalie Smith

Chris Terry

I have been teaching Brass to the young people in the area and playing in the Band for many years.

Jill Paton

I started out playing the Violin before moving onto the Alto & Tenor saxophone in my teens. I have since played for more than two decades in Big Bands, Concert Bands and 6 piece covers bands, playing all genres of music to all sorts of audiences. I love socialising with the band members whether it is our Christmas dinners, summer BBQs or virtual quiz night events during lockdown.
